Guangzhou Weather in November: The Most Pleasant Time of the Year

Written by Mike Ho Updated Apr. 8, 2026

Based on my personal experiences visiting Guangzhou at different times of the year, I believe November is the best time to visit Guangzhou.

Daytime temperatures generally stay between 20–26°C (68–79°F). Rainfall is minimal, usually just 2–3 days of light rain that won't affect your plans at all. The dry, cool weather in November is perfect for outdoor activities.

Additionally, the busy October period (the National Day holiday and the Canton Fair) has passed. Hotel prices and crowds at major attractions have returned to normal. You can enjoy better value accommodations and a more comfortable travel experience.

5 Activities in Guangzhou for November

In November, Guangzhou enjoys cool, pleasant autumn breezes. It is perfect for all kinds of outdoor activities. The following experiences offer unique seasonal scenery that's well worth adding to your itinerary. It will make your trip more diverse and memorable.

1. Visit the Guangzhou Garden Expo and Enjoy the Autumn Flower Sea

Guangzhou is known as the "City of Flowers", not only in spring but also in autumn. If you missed the spring flower sea, you still have the chance to experience the Guangzhou Garden Expo (Autumn Edition).

The expo runs from early November to early December. During this time, the areas around the Canton Tower, including Huacheng Square, Haixinsha, Ersha Island, and Linjiang Avenue, transform into a sprawling "urban flower carpet" stretching for several kilometers. Each of Guangzhou's 11 districts creates its own "Green and Beautiful Garden," with every exhibition space telling the story of its district through plants and flowers.

You can start at Huacheng Square, stroll through Haixinsha, wander over to Ersha Island, and finally arrive at Hongcheng Park. Every step along the way offers picture-perfect photo opportunities.

2. Stroll Through Old Guangzhou: Discover the City's Historical Buildings and Savor Authentic Food

Xiguan, the historic heart of Guangzhou, is a must-visit area for first-time travelers. It is a rich collection of historic architecture and authentic local food. November's cool, pleasant weather makes it the perfect time to unlock Guangzhou's secrets with a city walk.

Start your morning at the Chen Clan Ancestral Hall (a masterpiece of southern Chinese architectural art). Every inch of its roofs and pillars is carved with stories. Brick carvings, wood carvings, and ceramic sculptures cover every surface, exquisitely detailed enough to make you linger. It is distinctly different from northern Chinese architectural art, such as that of the Forbidden City.

Then, wander slowly along Enning Road's arcade-lined street toward Yongqing Fang. Granite-paved paths, latticed doors, and bamboo-tube houses showcase its centuries of history.

At the end of Enning Road, you'll arrive at Baohua Road. It is a true hub of Xiguan's culinary delights. This street is home to many century-old snack shops. The one that left the deepest impression on me was the crunchy fish skin at Chen Tianji, so fresh and tender. It's absolutely worth recommending.

You can also stroll over to Shamian Island, which preserves late 19th-century European-style architecture. Find a riverside café, sit down, watch the cruise ships glide by, and soak in the slow-paced life of old Guangzhou.

3. Visit Guangzhou's Botanical Garden to See Autumn Foliage

If you're visiting Guangzhou after mid-November, I recommend spending 2–3 hours at the South China Botanical Garden to admire the autumn leaves. Here, you'll find a stunning stretch of bald cypress trees lining the waterfront for hundreds of meters. When the leaves turn golden, the scene is breathtaking, especially perfect for photos.

The garden is about a half-hour drive from the city center. The best way to enjoy it is to choose a sunny afternoon and take a slow stroll along the lake in the park. When you reach the densest part of the grove, you would capture a great shot of fallen leaves, lake water, and sunlight.

Beyond the bald cypress, November also brings garlic vine in the Greenhouse into full bloom, with purple blossoms cascading like waterfalls. In the Tropical Rainforest Greenhouse, you can also spot rare and exotic blooms like golden penda and blue star flowers.

4. Hike Baiyun Mountain and Enjoy the Autumn Scenery

November in Guangzhou brings crisp, clear autumn weather. It is one of the best times of the year for hiking and viewing autumn foliage. From mid-November onward, the leaves of the bald cypress near the summit begin to shift from green to yellow, gradually deepening into shades of red. It is an excellent time for autumn photos.

Baiyun Mountain has three main entrances: South, West, and North. I recommend entering through the South Gate, as it offers a cable car, gentler hiking trails, and the most scenic views. A hike from the South Gate to the summit takes about 1.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take the cable car to Summit Square, then hike about 25 minutes to reach the highest peak, Moxingling.

5. Take a Pearl River Night Cruise and Admire the Canton Tower and the City Skyline

As a landmark of Guangzhou, the Canton Tower is a must-visit for many first-time travelers. However, instead of waiting in line for up to two hours to go up the tower and then enjoying the night view amidst the crowds, I recommend taking a Pearl River cruise.

From the boat, you can admire the illuminated Canton Tower and the city skyline along both banks. It's far more comfortable and offers completely different photo angles than those taken from the ground.

To capture the perfect shot of the Canton Tower against a sunset backdrop, I suggest boarding the cruise around sunset time (approximately 6:00 PM in November). Choose the Haixinsha Pier, it sits right across from the Canton Tower, offering the best photo opportunities.

For the best views, I recommend booking a VIP seat on the top deck, where you can even enjoy a meal on board. Savor delicious food while taking in Guangzhou's stunning night scenery. The cruise lasts about 1.5 hours.

Tickets can be booked via the WeChat mini-program "Pearl River Night Cruise." To secure a good seat and a high-end cruise experience, please book at least one week in advance.

What to Wear in November in Guangzhou

November in Guangzhou is honestly perfect, think sunny, warm days and cooler evenings. No heavy coats needed, just light layers.

During daytime, pack short-sleeve or long-sleeve shirt + light jacket or cardigan. That's it. Wear jeans or comfortable pants, bring sunglasses for those bright sunny days, and pack comfortable walking shoes. You'll be exploring a lot. If you're sensitive to the cold, throw a light scarf in your bag for evenings.
